If you have any photographs, cine film, VHS tapes or memorabilia that you would like to donate to Darwen Days, thank you so much! It’s the kind donations that help us to preserve Darwen’s history for the future generations.
Once your photographs are uploaded onto our server, a member of the website team then processes them- changing the size and tagging the image so it can easily be located by yourself and anyone else on the Darwen Days’ search engine. This can sometimes take a couple of weeks as Darwen Days is staffed entirely by volunteers who all have full-time jobs, so please be patient. If you’d like us to notify you when your donated photographs are on our site, please let us know and we’ll be happy to accommodate you.
If you have some old VHS footage you would like to donate to Darwen Days, we have the equipment to transfer it onto a computer where it can then be cut, edited and archived on our Youtube channel. Dependent on the amount of tapes you have, this can take between one week and a month, and we can collect tapes from you locally before returning them once we’ve taken copies. If you would like us to provide you with a digital copy of your own VHS footage too, that’s no problem- it’s a thanks from us to you for donating to our archives. We can burn your footage onto DVDs which we will provide when we return your VHS tapes.
A catch-all term for anything Darwen related, we love it when people are willing to donate objects to our rapidly growing collection; from tram tickets to school ties, theatre posters to postcards anything that can help us show the younger generations our much-loved town through the ages. If you want to retain ownership of an item, we now have the facilities to take photographs or digital scans of it and return it to you, so others’ can enjoy the item without it leaving your possession.
When you donate photographs, film or memorabilia to us, the copyright will always be yours. This is why we take your details and ask you to change the name of any images that you upload to our site- we always give credit where credit is due! All of the images on Darwen Days have been watermarked to prevent theft, and someone contacts us to use an image that belongs to you, we will always contact you first before proceeding further.
